  • Nicholas Cuccia, LMHC, EMDR certified Level 1 and 2

Nicholas’ journey with mindfulness and body-mind healing began during childhood. He is a practitioner of the Taoist internal martial and healing arts (Pa Qua, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, I Chuan, and Tsing I) and began his training at age 6 under the tutelage of Kung Fu legend Wong Jackman. He later studied under renowned masters Bruce Kumar Francis, Vince Black, and Mike Bingo. Nicholas’ Master’s Thesis was on the application of Taoist five-element theory in the understanding of personality and application to psychotherapy. His Taoist upbringing serves as the guiding philosophy by which he practices psychotherapy.

  • Nicholas has been a mental health advocate and community leader since 2007. He began his career in mental health administration, where he was Director of Quality Improvement and Clinical Informatics for the largest behavioral health provider in New Mexico. He also served as provider lead for the Local Collaborative in region 4 and community advisory board member for the Behavioral Health Collaborative. In 2009 he was awarded the Local Collaborative STAR award by the governor for outstanding consumer-driven community leadership in which he saved a $500,000 grant for substance abuse and mental health from being removed from the Las Vegas community. He went on to become an independent consultant and nationally recognized thought leader in the field of Health Information Technology and process improvement.

His passion for helping survivors of trauma led him back to direct service and clinical practice where he now specializes in Integrative Trauma Therapy that incorporates mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Eye Motion Desensitization Reprocessing (EDMR). Nicholas is EMDR trained and has completed part 1 & 2 of comprehensive EMDR training. He is currently in the process of working toward National EDMR certification. He has achieved great success using modified applications of the EMDR protocol to treat addiction/impulse control problems, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), specific phobia, social anxiety, as well as early childhood and recent trauma. In addition, Nicholas is also Certified in Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) and has worked with individuals with co-occurring disorders (substance use + mental health) using MATRIX Intensive Outpatient curriculum, Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing, and DBT informed approaches to substance use treatment.

In his personal life, Nicholas is a father of two, a writer, and performing artist. He can often be seen about town engaging in storytelling, stand-up comedy and poetry events. Last year he placed 3rd in the Duke City Story Slam Grand Championships and hopes to take first place this year. Nicholas and his partner are avid adventure cyclists, and his dream is to one day merge his passion for cycling and trauma therapy to harness the healing power of cycling and physical activity.
