  • Natalie Smith, MSW, LCSW, MFA

    Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Healing in the Desert, DBT

    Natalie Smith, MSW, LCSW, MFA is Executive Director of Awake and Aware, LLC. Natalie has been providing trauma specific care via our fully adherent adolescent and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to the Albuquerque community since 2008 and views it as a calling.  

    Natalie overseas both the administrative and clinical direction of the agency and was intensively trained in DBT via B-Tech in 2008.  

  • Theresa Olguin, LCSW

    Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Healing in the Desert, DBT

    Theresa Olguin, LCSWRYT-200 specializes in empowering adults, adolescents and families challenged by emotion dysregulation, suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, body image and gender-identity concerns to build a life worth living. She graduated with her Masters of Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University in 2008 and has worked in a variety of settings including homes in the community, prisons, and treatment foster care with individuals of various ages and in various stages of transition.


  • Jennifer Torrez, LPCC

    Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, DBT Program

    As a lifelong resident, Jennifer has been dedicated to serving the Albuquerque community and has worked in various levels of care including: Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Residential Treatment, Treatment Foster Care, Transitional Living, Drug Court/Juvenile Probation, Juvenile Correctional Facilities and has been part of an Integrated Care Clinic

  • Martha Cummins-Bell, LCSW, LADAC

    Licensed Master Social Worker

    Licensed Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor, DBT Program

    Lifelong Albuquerque resident, Martha Cummins-Bell, LMSW, LADAC joined the team with Awake and Aware, LLC in December of 2012. Martha is a graduate of the Bachelor’s in Social Work, Summa Cum Laude, and also earned a Master’s in Social Work at Highlands University. Martha completed the intensive 10 day training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy in 2013.

  • Bonni Amsden LPCC

    Licensed Mental Health Counselor

    Healing in the Desert, DBT

    Bonni Amsden, LPCC, graduated from the University of New Mexico and Webster University with degrees in sociology, psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling. Bonni’s experience includes working with children and adolescents in school and outpatient settings.

    Beverly received her BA in Environmental Studies and Fine arts and her Master of Science (MS) degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Wright State University in 2005.  

  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Healing in the Desert, DBT Gilbert Valdez, LPCC has served as a mental health therapist in a multitude of communities, populations and settings throughout New Mexico. One of the recent additions to our team, Gilbert joined the Healing in the Desert (HID) program as a trauma therapist in February of 2017. Gilbert graduated Summa Cum Laude both as an undergraduate in Psychology and graduate in Counseling from Eastern New Mexico University. Gilbert is passionate about meeting individuals where they are at- without judgement- and in that space, guiding toward healing and wholeness.

  • Paul Jenks, DOM

    Diplomate of Oriental Medicine

    Licensed Professional Art Therapist, Healing in the Desert

    Paul is a board certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine with the NCCAOM and is a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine in New Mexico. Paul graduated from the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in 2002 where he was trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been practicing in Albuquerque since that time.

  • Kim Perrier, MA, LPCC, LPAT, ATR

    Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Healing in the Desert, DBT Kim Perrier received her MA in Art Therapy from Southwestern College in 2006. Since that time, Perrier has been working with individuals who have experienced trauma in a variety of settings. The belief that all people are resilient helps guide her work. As an Art Therapist, she works with clients to find healing and language for that which is unspeakable.

  • Storme Lynn, MD, a graduate of Cornell University Medical College has been a physician for 40 years. She trained and practiced as an internist for nine years, delivering primary care to adults in community health settings before completing a Fellowship in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Harvard Medical School (1986--1989). She was a practicing psychiatrist and psychotherapist from 1989 to 2004, with a focus on community mental health.
