    Helen McKinney, LMSW, graduated from Columbia University with a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work studying Dialectical Behavior Therapy under Dr. Andre Ivanoff. Her previous DBT experience has been on Riker's Island in New York City working with adult males in the Restrictive Housing Unit and the Mental Observation Unit focusing on skills training, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention. Helen’s experience in crisis-intervention includes suicide and self-harm assessment and implementation of safety plans, developing treatment targets for individuals living with chronic homelessness, substance use, and providing education in harm reduction for those who engage in sex work.

     

  • Helen has served adults from diverse backgrounds and is versed in creating and coordinating care for individuals with a myriad of needs. Her areas of specialty include substance use disorders, anxiety, and skills training.  Helen is currently delivering adherent DBT and trauma-informed care. Her client’s value her for her change-focus, insight and skills training.
